I feel a paradox of emotions where I am… being safe and in relative coolness during this new heat wave, this Earth’s fever; walking under such beautiful sunsets through scented forests and meeting the dying spruce, the drought preventing them to heal their wounds.  From my window I see a new grey skeleton every day.  And in the places where they have died and fallen, new growth welcomes all manner of critters.  

There’s a certain ruthless hope in how life keeps on unfolding.

The Unravelling, great or small, happens all around me.  Has been happening all my life.  It can be scary, and yet it brings the power of new possibilities, of truly letting go of the structures that right now stiffen life, way past their serve-by date.  Each strand, each knot brings the possibility of a question: do I need this?  Does this serve life?

Fear is a companion, and, when I’m calm and my heart compassionate, we hug and tend one another.  Rushing has ceased to be an option.

The Unravelling is also the dismantling of power-over.  From the small contracts we’ve made by which we relinquish responsibility and agency, to the ruling of our lives by detached, self-centred, centralised governmental structures that have lost all connection to our true needs, our heart’s gifts.  The Unravelling lays bare the essence of life: right relationship, trust, belonging.  It removes the distractions of material growth, greed, imposed dissatisfaction.  It invites us to share, and through that we reconnect with the innate abundance of life.  Of our lives.

The Unravelling is unwrapping our gifts, especially those in the margins.

And the Unravelling is painful.  It brings such physical pain to so many… those losing families, culture, their lives, as they cross the Mediterranean, fleeing Modernity’s slashing of their lands and livelihood.  Those huddled in the dark as the ground where their houses used to be crumbles above their heads, bombed by Greed’s fear, Power clutching to straws of domination.  Those isolated, addicted, medicated, enslaved through a lifestyle—or the illusion thereof—that is only possible through separation from life.

The Pain of the Unravelling, right now so far away from my living body…  How to share what feels like blessings, more fairly?  Very small steps…

Offerings

Council journey this Autumn and Winter.

I am offering a five-week journey with the Way of Council, where we will travel as a small group, deepening our intimacy with this practice.  We will meet once a week for a two-hour session, where we get to try different variations and settings, and go through iterations of the way we speak, the way we listen.  There are invitations for practice in between the live sessions, and time to let the forms really sink into and percolate through our body and mind.

You also have the opportunity to learn more about the history and practices of the Way of Council, as I will offer some (brief) story-telling about that in every session.
